Hattie A. and Fred C. Lynam Continue to Support Nonprofits


The Hattie A. and Fred C. Lynam Trust sustains the Lynam legacy by supporting Mount Desert Island nonprofits through annual grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 each.

Grant Eligibility

Organizations, programs, and services eligible for grant consideration are those which:

  • Have been established as tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3)
  • Are charitable, educational, or religious in nature
  • Maintain their primary administrative office on Mount Desert Island

Grants may be awarded for operations, facilities, or capital campaigns.

Grant completion reports must be submitted one year after receipt of grant financial support or with grant application for renewal the following year, whichever is first.

Grant Consideration

First time and renewal applicants must complete and submit the grant application by the deadline, typically mid-September, to request financial support for the following calendar year.

Renewal applicants must complete and submit the grant completion report with their grant application.

Grant applicants should submit their finished grant application with requested supporting materials and finished grant completion report, if applicable, by email or regular mail to:

Grant Review

Grant applications and grant completion reports are reviewed by the Hattie A. and Fred C. Lynam Trust Grants Committee each November.

Grant Announcements

Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust Awards $140,000 to Mount Desert Island Organizations (November 30, 2022)

Grant applicants are notified of committee decisions and distributed grants, if awarded, by December 31 of the year grant requested.

Grant applicants are required to submit a grant completion report one year after receipt of grant financial support or with grant application for renewal the following year, whichever is first.
